Head Coach “Ricky” Ricardo Rodriguez, Jr.
Coach Ricky Ricardo started boxing at the age of 9. His amateur career started strong at 17 when he won the Golden Gloves novice division tournament. He continued by winning the Golden Gloves open division tournament and Nevada state Golden Gloves Championship at age 18.
His Father opened a boxing gym, the Wesley community center on bukeye. In 1992 he opened up a boxing gym on 18th avenue and Van Buren in 1992, called Madison Square Garden Boxing Gym. One day Ricky picked up the mitts and began training boxers as a coach.
The first year as a coach, Ricky Ricardo won 12 team trophies. He went on training Gilbert Lucas to go to the Junior Olympics, he won the silver the first year and a gold medal the second year. Ricky was coach of the year in 1997 for the SGMA hero award for the community. Since then, Ricky has made several Golden Gloves Champions and several medalists for the International junior Olympics. He made his first world champion whom fought on the ABC wide world of sports, Ivan Travino.
Danny Batchelder, who fought for the vacant cruiserweight belt was also trained by Ricky. Ricky has had numerous professional boxers. His mission is to keep children off the streets and out of drugs and gangs. “Champions against drugs and Gangs”. Ricky Ricardo has been coaching now for 28 years.
